Destinations: Laikipia Wilderness

Staying at the Laikipia Wilderness’ authentic safari camp in Northern Kenya, you will have the best adventures with the range of activities, so that we can share the most astonishing corners of Northern Kenya with you. You can get connected to Africa while you are on walks along the river, and explore rocky outcrops, all with an experienced guide and you can venture through valleys with breathtaking views of the wilderness. Our activities are suitable for families of all ages.

Wildlife

Laikipia has the most extraordinary wildlife, being unfenced makes the area easy for the game to travel among all landscapes following the rains. It is the home to a vast range of game, from Lions to Dik-dik, also to more than 70% of the world’s remaining Grevy’s Zebras, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, zorilla, and melanistic leopard Large permanent herds of elephant, lion, leopard, spotted hyena, common zebra, warthog, hippo, buffalo, striped hyena, aardwolf, wild dog, and many different antelope species. Our guides will identify up to 350 varied species of birds.

Wild dog

Here you might see the most incredible sightings of wild dogs, recently one pack has been named ‘Phoenix Pack’ that has been monitored for ten years. The ‘Phoenix Pack’ has come back from an outbreak of canine distemper in 2017. Wild dogs often hunt in nearby areas, and it is possible to find them in daylight even though they are not in immediate areas. If you would prefer to see wild dogs, make sure to mention it to the reservations team so that they can tell you when the best time for booking is.

Leopard

Laikipia is famous for black leopards, it was originally captured on camera by Will Burrard Lucas in 2019. These extremely rare cats are one of our treasures and a female cub was spotted being born less van 100m from the camp. She is regularly seen, and she is relaxed around vehicles, which can allow you to capture magnificent photos of her. Limited vehicles are allowed at a time of a sighting as well as the amount of time, and Private vehicles or shared Nocturnal vehicles are given priority.
